Since 1957, Bel Mateo Bowl has been part of the Peninsula's story. From first strikes to lifelong friendships, generations have made memories on our lanes. Nearly 70 years later, we're still rolling — and still finding new ways to bring people together.

OUR STORY · SINCE 1957

A Neighborhood Tradition.

For decades, Bel Mateo Bowl was owned by Rex Golobic, a familiar name in the local bowling community.

In 2013, longtime bowling professional Mike Leong — who had known Rex and his wife Reiko since his teenage years — took ownership and began a new chapter.

Renovations and new entertainment experiences helped bring fresh life to our 24-lane center, while preserving the classic bowling tradition at its heart.

🏆 2017 Small Business of the Year!

In June 2017, Senator Jerry Hill proudly recognized us for our neighborhood bowling center and its place in the San Mateo and Santa Clara communities.

A LITTLE LOCAL HISTORY

Wait... What's With the Totem Pole?

That towering steel sculpture outside our entrance? It's part of our original 1957 design!

Once surrounded by an outdoor fountain, our unmistakable totem pole is a reminder of Bel Mateo Bowl's colorful mid-century beginnings. In March 1958, Life Magazine published a full-page, full-color photograph of the Bel Mateo totem pole!

The fountain is long gone, but this quirky piece of our history is still standing.

OUR NEXT CHAPTER

Still Here. Still Rolling.

As neighborhood bowling centers across the Bay Area have disappeared, we've become even more grateful for the opportunity to keep this tradition alive.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought extended closures and some of our greatest challenges. With incredible support from our community, we were able to reopen and keep moving forward.

♥ THE NEXT GENERATION

Today, we're continuing to adapt to changing times while staying true to what matters most: bowling, connection, and community. And with Mike's son now joining the team, another generation is helping carry the tradition forward.

Some places are worth keeping around. We think neighborhood bowling is one of them.
